FAO Regional Office for Africa

There are substantial and growing numbers of sub-regional and regional projects that aim to enhance FAO's impact on region-wide issues in strong partnership with regional organizations.

Programmes and projects

FAO's Strategic Framework provides direction for FAO's technical work and its Strategic Programmes (SPs) to effectively address the priorities in the region and ensure effective delivery of results at country level. The three regional initiatives are:

  1. Africa’s Commitment to End Hunger by 2025
  2. Sustainable Production Intensification and Value Chain Development; and
  3. Building Resilience in Africa’s Drylands.

The programmes enable FAO to effectively respond to the challenges and address the priorities in the African region in a coherent, consistent and synergetic manner to achieve significant results at country level.

The programmes also facilitated an integrated approach in terms of delivery at country level and helped articulate the Regional Initiatives to effectively respond to the most important regional priorities and achieve results.

Partnerships with the regional, subregional (Regional Economic Commissions [RECs]) and country partners have facilitated development of policies and strategies, programme implementation and tracking progress. Collaboration with UN Agencies, notably the Rome-based Agencies, International Financial Institutions, resource partners and South-South partners have contributed significantly to the achievement of results at country level.
